Karin Usher MBACP
Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Building a strong client relationship is my priority, so I begin by breaking the ice and sharing a little about myself—why I became a psychotherapist and how our work together can help you achieve meaningful growth.

When life feels overwhelming or uncertain, it's natural to want someone who truly listens. Not just to what you're saying, but to what you're feeling—even the things you find hard to put into words. That's where therapy can make all the difference. My goal is to provide a calm, welcoming environment where you feel truly heard and supported as we work together to create meaningful, lasting change.

What My Experience Means for You

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent over two decades working as a professional interpreter and running a translation agency. This wasn't just about translating words—it was about helping people connect during some of the most important and emotionally charged moments of their lives.

What does this mean for you as my client? It means I've spent my career deeply attuned to understanding people, their emotions, and the challenges they face. It also means I know how to create a space where you feel safe to express yourself, even when words are hard to find.

I chose to retrain as a psychotherapist because I'm passionate about helping people overcome life's challenges. Whether it's anxiety, stress, trauma, or low self-esteem, I believe that with the right support, you can move past what's holding you back and reconnect with your strengths.

How I Work With You

Therapy isn't a one-size-fits-all process—it's personal, just like you. That's why I adapt each session to your needs, preferences, and goals, creating a space that feels supportive and effective.

Here's what you can expect when working with me:

  • A Tailored Approach: I draw from a range of evidence-based techniques, including person-centred therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, somatic practices, and other trauma-informed approaches. Together, we'll find what works best for you.

  • Practical, Real-World Support: I don't just focus on the theory of therapy—I focus on what helps you feel better in your day-to-day life. You'll leave sessions with tools you can use to manage anxiety, reduce stress, and feel more in control.

  • A Safe, Understanding Space: Many clients tell me they feel comfortable opening up with me, even about things they've never shared before. That's because I create an environment where you feel accepted, understood, and supported every step of the way.

What Therapy Can Offer You

Therapy is a powerful tool for healing and growth. It's not about fixing who you are—it's about helping you reconnect with your strengths and move through life's challenges with confidence and clarity.

Many of my clients come to me for help with anxiety, stress, trauma, or feelings of low self-worth. Others aren't sure what's wrong but know they want to feel better. Wherever you're starting from, therapy can help you:

  • Find relief from overwhelming emotions.
  • Understand the patterns that are keeping you stuck.
  • Build tools to manage anxiety and stress effectively.
  • Heal from past trauma in a way that feels safe and manageable.

Imagine waking up feeling lighter, with a clearer sense of purpose and a renewed ability to handle life's ups and downs. Therapy gives you the space to make that possible.

Why Clients Choose Me

What makes my approach unique is the combination of professional training, life experience, and a genuine commitment to understanding you as an individual. I know that starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if you're dealing with anxiety, trauma, or painful emotions that feel overwhelming.

But I also know that the right support can make all the difference. My clients often tell me they feel a sense of relief after just a few sessions—not because all their problems have disappeared, but because they finally feel heard and equipped with practical tools to start making changes.

A Little About Me

Outside of therapy, I find balance and inspiration in simple, grounding practices like walking in nature, reading, and reflecting on life's quieter moments. These small, restorative acts remind me of the importance of staying present and bringing calm into everyday life—values I bring into every session with my clients.

I’m also committed to continual learning. Therapy is an ever-evolving field, and I regularly update my skills and techniques to ensure I'm providing the best, most effective support for my clients.

Your Next Step

Taking the first step towards therapy might feel uncertain, but it's also a powerful act of self-care. Whether you're looking for relief from anxiety, healing from trauma, or simply a space to better understand yourself, I'm here to help.

You don't need to have all the answers before we start—our work together is about discovering what works best for you. If you're ready to take that step, or even just curious about how therapy could help, get in touch today.
